“Official Nikon capture software”

Nikon claim that their Capture NX software releases not only the power of Nikon's Electronic Format (NEF) files but also, for the first time, it makes JPEG and TIFF processing and editing elegant and easy enough for even novice photographers to use. On the most part it's true. There are few photo capture software applications around that give you so much control over editing and enhancing your images. In addition, there are no hugely complicated procedures - the interface provides instant access to all of the major tools you need to extract photos from your camera andenhance them.

Selective tools such as the Selection Brush and Selection Gradient can be used to apply all manner of enhancements. There are 25 new tools and enhancements, ranging from the Black, White, and Neutral Control Point tools that enable the you to remove colour casts and set the image's dynamic range. There's also a very useful Distortion Correction enhancement that enables the user to reduce barrel and pincushion type distortions in their images. For a photo capture tool, this is one very complete product although for general users, it's more than you need.
